Contracts define which Commission Plan Rates are eligible to be used when commissions are calculated.
They act as a container that groups Commission Plans and their associated rates, which are later selected based on the Policy’s commissionable product and the Contract assigned to the Agent or Organization receiving commissions.
Contracts are foundational configuration objects and should be set up early in the process. A Contract is required before:
- Assigning a primary Contract to an Agent or Organization
- Referencing a Contract as an Alternate Contract through Custom Settings
- Loading Commission Plan Rates

How Contracts Are Used
A Contract may be applied in two ways:
- Primary Contract
Assigned directly to an Agent or Organization - Alternate Contract
Applied through Custom Settings based on specific business rules
The Contract itself does not perform commission calculations.
Instead, it determines which Commission Plan Rate is available for:
- The commissionable product on the Policy
- The Agent or Organization receiving commissions
The commission amount is calculated entirely from the selected Plan Rate.
Medicare (MAPD & PDP) Considerations
Medicare products (MAPD & PDP) use a dedicated Commission Plan Rate import and include different rate fields than non‑Medicare products.
While the rate structures differ:
- Medicare and non‑Medicare products can share the same Contract
- If needed, Alternate Contracts may be used to handle Medicare‑specific behavior

Creating a Contract
To create a Contract:
- Navigate to Contracts → Issuer Contracts
- Select Add New Contract
- Complete the required fields:
- Contract Name
- Status
- Optionally add:
- Description
- Comments
- Select Save
Once saved, the Contract is available to have Commission Plan Rates added or imported.
Changing a Contract’s name or status does not change commission amounts or Plan Rate calculations.
Importing Related Data
Contracts may be created manually or through imports. The following imports are related:
- Commission Contracts
- Commission Plan Rates
- Commission Plan Rates State Specific
- Commission Plan Rates – MAPD & PDP
When importing Plan Rates, if the referenced Contract does not already exist, it will be created automatically.
Viewing Inactive Contracts
The Contracts list displays only active Contracts by default.
To view inactive Contracts (and their associated Plan Rates), uncheck Display only active Contracts.
